Holy Communion is the reception of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. It is “the source and summit of the Christian life.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church #1324
First Holy Communion Preparation for Children
Preparation to receive First Holy Communion is offered through the Religious Education Program. Children must be baptized and at least 8 years old or in the 2nd grade. Classes begin in September and the reception of First Holy Communion takes place when the child is sacramentally ready – often in the following Spring, but not always. Weekly attendance of preparation classes is mandatory. The sacrament of Holy Communion follows the sacrament of First Reconciliation (Confession).
Registration for preparation for First Holy Communion during the 2024-2025 academic year is now closed. Registration for the 2025-2026 formation year will open in May 2025.
First Holy Communion Preparation for Adults
Adults who have not yet received first Holy Communion can be prepared for this sacrament through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
