Theology on Tap: The Sabbath – Dr. Jared Ortiz

Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 PM in the former Hennessy’s Pub

Keeping the Sabbath holy is one of the Ten Commandments, yet many Christians wonder whether it is still a commandment that we have to follow.  And, if so, how?  And why?  This talk will explore the theology of the Sabbath.  We will think about how the Sabbath is part of creation, why it may be the heart of the Ten Commandments, how Jesus fulfills the Sabbath, and also some practical advice for how we might keep it holy.

Dr. Jared Ortiz is a professor of Religion at Hope College. He received a Ph.D in historical theology from the Catholic University of America. Dr. Ortiz specializes in early Christian theology, especially St. Augustine. He has scholarly interests in liturgy, Patristic theology and disability.
