Tacos & Theology is open to all Young Adults (18-35yrs). This month, Fr Eugene will be speaking on The Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila. This work by St. Teresa provides the reader with a roadmap to spirituality. It begins with an invitation to self-awareness. As one begins to enter into the different levels of spirituality, one begins to understand the depth of God’s love. As for Fr. Eugene, his interest in the spirituality of Teresa of Avila began out of obedience, when like her, he was asked to reflect on prayer and spirituality. At the beginning of her book, his heart and soul were captivated by her because it echoed exactly what he was feeling at the time: “Few tasks that I have been commanded by obedience to undertake have been as difficult as this one. How do I write about matters of prayer? But I have found that whenever I have surrendered in obedience, impossible things have become simple. It is ridiculous of course, to think that what I would say could be of use to anyone else. But if these words inspire even one of my friends to praise God a little more, He will be granting me a great boon.” (Interior Castle, Prologue). Fr. Eugene is a Redemptorist priest currently serving in the Diocese of Grand Rapids as the Assistant Director of Youth and Young Adult Hispanic Ministry.
